2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Engines, Towing and Payload
The next-generation 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 offers four powertrains, each with a 10-speed automatic: a 350-horsepower TurboMax, an all-new 402-horsepower 5.7L V8, an all-new 481-horsepower 6.6L V8 and the Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel with 495 lb-ft of torque. GMC Sierra horsepower now tops out at 481, which GMC calls the most of any naturally aspirated V8 in the class, and properly equipped, a 2027 Sierra 1500 tows up to 13,500 pounds with the 5.7L V8. MotorTrend scores the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 8.8/10 and ranks it third among full-size trucks, and Car and Driver rates it 8.5/10, fifth among full-size pickups. Both praise the powertrain choices: MotorTrend says there is no bad engine option and calls Super Cruise excellent, and Car and Driver likes the towing and payload ratings and the Crew Cab's room.
